Recipe - Jook (Chinese rice porridge)

Ingredients

Add To Cart 1 Tbsp. Navitas Naturals Goji Berries
added after or during the rice cooking
2 c. sushi rice
  5 c. water

Directions

Boil the rice in a pot on the stove until the rice is very soft and breaking apart. Keep adding water to keep the rice soupy, like a porridge. Don’t let the rice dry out. Scoop the porridge into large bowls and serve with a variety of toppings for your friends to select from. Stir the toppings into the rice and enjoy. Traditionally, jook is served for breakfast in street cafes or as a “get well” dish during cold and flu season. It is often served with duck or an over-easy fried egg, but can easily be adapted to a vegetarian diet. Goji berries can be cooked with the rice, or added after.

Toppings

  • Grated fresh ginger root
  • Nama shoyu (wheat-free soy sauce)
  • Diced tofu
  • Miso
  • Diced shallots
  • Chili oil or red chili seeds
  • Navitas Naturals Goji Berries
