Recipes - Using Wakame

Navitas Naturals Wakame Flakes contain natural salts in the form of organic minerals like calcium and iron, and may be used as a flavor-enhancing seasoning (excellent for low sodium diets). When reconstituted, dried wakame flakes act like a tender, cooked vegetable that is a welcome addition to any healthy kitchen.

Chef's Notes:

  • Wakame is best when rehydrated in water or broth before consuming. Simply soak dried flakes for 5-10 minutes in hot liquids, or 20-25 minutes in cool liquids. Dried wakame may also be added directly to soups at the end of cooking, allowing flakes to rehydrate directly in soup -- imparting maximum flavor and mineral content.
  • Always add wakame (presoaked or dry) to recipes at the end of cooking to preserve tenderness -- extended cooking of wakame can result in an undesireabe texture and loss of flavor.
  • Wakame makes a great addition to miso and other soups, sauces, asian-inspired noodle and rice dishes, casseroles, and salads.
  • Bring wakame on camping trips and traveling for a lightweight way to ensure you get your greens.
  • Wakame may be stored for extremely long periods of time when kept in a moisture-proof container.
